The prospect of major surgery often causes major worry. First and foremost, you wonder if you’ll be able to return to the life you had before your procedure.

It’s important to remember that your surgery is just the first – and not the only – step in your recovery. Without the next step of proper rehabilitation, your recovery can stall before you’re healed.

LifeWorks Rehab has that step covered. Our advanced inpatient rehabilitation service offers faster and more complete surgery recovery than home or outpatient therapy.

Because every patient responds to surgery differently, the LifeWorks process always starts with an extensive evaluation that examines all aspects of your pre- and post-surgery condition and pain levels. We then develop a personalized plan that addresses your needs and goals. The first few days after surgery, we focus on getting you moving again.

We use physical therapy to address the basics of strength and conditioning to help you start moving safely on your own. If necessary we’ll teach you to use adaptive equipment like a cane or walker. We also use occupational therapy to help you perform the activities of daily living such as dressing, bathing, cooking, medication management, toileting, and safety in the home environment. Speech therapy helps address any issues with swallowing, speaking, or cognitive ability. We also do a home assessment to help you safely return home. This can include removing fall hazards like rugs and replacing them with non-slip surfaces and safety bars in the bathroom. We don’t consider our work complete until you reach your full potential and can perform tasks at your best level.

The LifeWorks Advantage
The Importance of Independence

Carol was on her way to work, walking on a new pair of high-heeled clogs. Her ankle turned suddenly. The next thing she knew, she was in surgery with torn ligaments and ruptured tendons — not the sort of condition a person used to living on her own looks forward to.

At first, she was scared. The surgery had left her very weak. And she couldn't imagine how she would get her independence back.

LifeWorks Rehab was there to help.

Her therapists toured Carol's home, looking for ways to help her manage while she healed. With special training to build strength and balance, and daily living skills training to help her cope with a cast, Carol was soon able to climb the 32 steps to her apartment — by herself.

Today she's walking just fine. And keeping her heels close to the ground.
